What Is Sizing Like at Seasalt Cornwall?

Seasalt Cornwall sizes true to standard UK sizing, with a relaxed, slightly generous cut that leans into the brand's laid-back coastal ethos — so if you're usually a UK 12, stick with a 12, though if you're between sizes, sizing down is often the smarter call. I'll be honest with you: I first discovered Seasalt on a grey October weekend in Cornwall, and I nearly didn't give it a second glance. Artsy prints, vaguely agricultural shapes — it wasn't love at first sight. Then I tried on a Sailor top and a linen midi skirt and I absolutely got it. The fit was relaxed without being sloppy, the fabric felt genuinely substantial, and the whole thing had this wonderful ease that expensive brands try to manufacture and never quite achieve. I've been a convert ever since.
The Seasalt Sizing Story
Seasalt is a Cornish brand with a strong ethical backbone and an equally strong sense of its own identity. Their clothes are designed for real life — for walking along the coast, popping into the village pub, collecting children from school — which means the sizing philosophy is generous rather than vanity-inflated. This is a brand that cuts for comfort and movement rather than a sculpted, fitted silhouette.
A few things worth knowing before you shop:
Sizing runs true to UK size, occasionally a touch generous in the body
The brand covers UK 6 to UK 24 across most lines — one of the better size ranges on the high street
Knitwear runs large — I'd consistently recommend sizing down by one
Dresses and jersey pieces are generous through the chest and hip — great if you're fuller-busted, less ideal if you're petite
Their trousers tend to have a higher rise and a relaxed leg — very much on trend, but worth noting if you prefer a slimmer cut

Garment-by-Garment Sizing Breakdown
Seasalt has a wide product range, and the fit isn't uniform across categories. Here's my honest, garment-by-garment take:
Sailor & Breton Tops: Their hero product, and the fit is excellent. True to size with a relaxed body and slightly dropped shoulder. If you're narrow-shouldered, try the next size down. These are some of the best-fitting Breton tops in the UK market — I've tried many and these are genuinely among the top tier.
Knitwear: Size down without hesitation. Their jumpers and cardigans are cut generously and knit with substantial weight — a UK 10 knitwear piece often fits more like a 12. I made the mistake of ordering my usual size in their Kynance jumper and it was practically a blanket.
Dresses: True to size but with a relaxed, often boxy silhouette. They're not designed to skim the body, so if you want a more defined fit, size down. The jersey wrap styles are the exception — these tend to be the most figure-flattering pieces in the range.
Trousers & Jeans: True to size in the waist, slightly generous on the hip and thigh. The rise is high (a genuine high rise, not a fashion high rise) and legs are relaxed. Brilliant if you're pear-shaped; may feel voluminous if you're very petite.
Coats & Jackets: True to size and cut well for layering — you won't need to size up to accommodate a chunky knit underneath. Shoulder seams sit accurately and the arm length is good for taller builds too.
Swimwear: Their swimwear runs true to size with excellent coverage. A genuinely brilliant option if you find most swimwear too skimpy or too low-cut. The long-line rash vests are some of my favourite coastal buys of the last few years.
Who Does Seasalt Fit Best?

Seasalt's relaxed, non-fitted silhouettes work particularly well for:
Fuller-busted women — there's genuine ease across the chest rather than tension
Pear shapes — the generous hip allowance means no pulling or riding up
Those who value comfort and longevity of fit over a sculpted look
Taller builds — their length is slightly above average, which is a genuine rarity
If you're very petite (under 5'3") or prefer a more tailored, body-skimming silhouette, you may find some pieces swim a little. Their petite-friendly options are limited, and the relaxed cuts can drown a smaller frame if you're not careful with which pieces you choose.
Alternatives If Seasalt Doesn't Quite Work for You
Love the Seasalt aesthetic but finding the fit isn't clicking? Here are my honest picks across price points — chosen specifically because they share that coastal, quality-first, British sensibility:
High Street & Mid-Market:
Fat Face — Possibly the closest direct rival. Similar coastal British spirit, very similar price point, and the fit tends to be slightly more structured through the body. Consistently excellent reviews for knitwear and outerwear.
White Stuff — Another great option for relaxed, print-led British dressing. Their jersey dresses and linen pieces are a particular highlight, and the fit is fractionally more fitted than Seasalt.
Joules — Reliable for classic Breton tops and cheerful prints. Sizing runs true and the quality-to-price ratio is strong, particularly for outerwear.
Boden — If you want the quality step up with slightly more refined cuts. Boden's fit is more tailored than Seasalt's, which suits petite or slim builds well. Their print quality is exceptional.
Crew Clothing — Brilliant for the nautical stripe lover. Consistently good sizing, very true to UK standard, and the knitwear is a real strength.
Lands' End — Underrated and often overlooked. Great for practical, quality pieces with a coastal feel at very honest prices. Their swimwear sizing in particular is exceptional.
Barbour — For outerwear specifically, Barbour's gilets and wax jackets are the natural companion to a Seasalt wardrobe. Slightly smaller cut through the body, so size up by one for layering.
Premium & Independent:
Hush — Lovely quality, relaxed cuts with more sophisticated colourways. Similar ethos to Seasalt but a slightly more grown-up, urban-coastal feel. Their knitwear and jersey dresses are particularly good.
Weird Fish — A brilliant independent find for those who love Seasalt's ethos. Cornish-founded, similarly sustainability-minded, with excellent quality at comparable prices. Their Breton tops and organic cotton basics are worth a look — and far less well-known than they deserve to be.
Celtic & Co — A genuinely wonderful independent brand out of Newquay making beautiful shearling, knitwear and coastal pieces. If you love Seasalt's quality and craftsmanship but want something a little more considered and less ubiquitous, this is your answer. Sizes run true and the pieces are built to last for years.
