What Is Sizing Like at See by Chloé?

See by Chloé runs small by UK standards — I'd recommend sizing up at least one size, and in some styles two, particularly in tailored pieces and structured denim. The brand follows French/European sizing conventions, which are notoriously unforgiving if you're used to shopping on the UK high street. Think of it this way: if you're a confident UK 10, plan to try a 38 or even 40, and don't be surprised if your ego takes a minor hit at the fitting room mirror. Trust me, mine has — repeatedly.
I first discovered See by Chloé at a trade press preview years ago and fell completely in love with a ruffled silk blouse. I asked for my usual size. It arrived. I couldn't get my arms through. That was my education in French diffusion sizing, and I'm here to spare you the same ordeal.
The Brand in Brief
See by Chloé is the accessible diffusion line of the iconic Parisian house Chloé — same bohemian, feminine DNA, slightly more wallet-friendly price points. Think floaty midi dresses, soft suede boots, relaxed tailoring in earthy tones, and the kind of effortless layering that makes it look like you didn't try (you did, we all did). The aesthetic leans vintage-boho with a very particular Parisian insouciance, and it's genuinely beautiful. Getting the size right is the key to it all working.
See by Chloé Size Conversion Guide
Below is a general size guide for See by Chloé. As with all French brands, use your measurements rather than your usual UK label size — especially for fitted styles.

Always measure in centimetres before ordering and compare directly to the brand's garment measurements where listed. French sizing is not standardised the way UK sizing broadly is, so garment-to-garment variation exists.
How Sizing Works by Garment Type
Different pieces from See by Chloé behave very differently when it comes to fit — here's what I've found after years of styling clients in the brand:
Dresses & Skirts: The floaty, gathered styles (and there are many — it's basically the brand's signature) tend to be more forgiving because of their relaxed construction. If you're between sizes, you can often stay in your usual EU equivalent. That said, smocked or elasticated bodices can be deceptively fitted — go up if you're busty.
Tailored Trousers & Jeans: This is where you'll feel the sizing most acutely. The cuts here are slim and hip-conscious in a very Parisian way. A client of mine — a confident UK 12 — found herself in a 42 comfortably in a straight-leg denim style. Size up, try before you buy if at all possible.
Blouses & Tops: Generally cut with a relaxed drape at the body, so these tend to be slightly more accommodating than bottoms. However, if you're broader across the shoulders or carry volume across the bust, definitely go up one. The sleeve cut can feel narrow, particularly on structured styles.
Knitwear & Jumpers: These are some of the most forgiving pieces in the range — often designed with an intentional oversized or boxy shape, meaning they sit much more comfortably across sizes. A UK 10–12 could typically wear the same knit in many styles.
Outerwear & Jackets: I'd recommend sizing up here without question, especially if you plan to layer underneath (and you should — it's British weather). The cut is slim and structured. Go up one, possibly two if you're wearing chunky knitwear beneath.
Footwear: See by Chloé shoes and boots tend to run true to EU sizing, which thankfully aligns with UK sizing quite neatly. Where it gets complicated is in the width — the lasts can run narrow, so wider feet may find the leather needs time to break in.
My Honest Stylist Take

If I'm dressing a client who loves the See by Chloé aesthetic — that sun-faded, romantically dishevelled French girl energy — I always tell them to measure first and leave their ego entirely at the door. The clothes themselves are genuinely beautiful: the fabric quality is well above what the price point suggests, the silhouettes are deeply flattering once you're in the right size, and there's a real lightness and femininity to the collection that's hard to replicate elsewhere.
But do not rely on your usual label size. Just don't. Measure your bust, waist, and hips in centimetres, compare them to the table above, and go from there. If you're between sizes in the measurements, go up — French brands cut close and don't leave much ease.
Brands With a Similar Feel — At Different Price Points
Whether you love the bohemian aesthetic of See by Chloé but want to shop at a different price point, or you just want alternatives that fit a bit more generously, here are my picks across the spectrum:
High Street Picks
Mango — Consistently one of the best high street brands for capturing that Southern European boho-chic mood. Their midi dresses and wide-leg trousers often nail the same relaxed femininity at a fraction of the price. Sizing is still European, so the same sizing-up advice applies.
Anthropologie — A brilliant source for that romantic, maximalist take on relaxed dressing. The print work and fabrication are genuinely lovely, and sizing tends to be slightly more generous and UK-friendly.
Whistles — Understated British label that does the relaxed, elevated basics exceptionally well. Think considered cuts in quality fabrics — not as boho, but beautifully wearable.
Cos — For those who love See by Chloé's more architectural, pared-back moments. Brilliant quality, generous sizing, and an enduring design language that doesn't date.
Jigsaw — A grown-up, quietly brilliant brand that shares a certain sensibility with the See by Chloé woman. Sophisticated, relaxed, never shouty. Also tends to fit the UK body more generously.
French Connection — Particularly good for their dresses and knitwear with a similar draped, feminine quality. Well-priced and often found heavily reduced in the sales.
Me&Em — Perhaps my top recommendation for the woman who loves See by Chloé's quality but wants a brand that truly understands the UK figure. Exceptional tailoring, generous cuts, and real attention to fabric. Not cheap for high street, but exceptional value.
Premium Picks
Reiss — For occasions when you want the grown-up polish of the See by Chloé look without the import complexity. Reiss does elevated workwear and occasion dressing with a very European sensibility.
Mint Velvet — Genuinely underrated for that boho-luxe mood. Think relaxed silhouettes, beautiful print placement, and a palette that feels considered rather than trend-chasing. Fits the UK body well.
Ted Baker — Known for intricate print and detail work with a distinctly feminine character. Good for special occasion dressing with that same romantic energy.
Independent Labels Worth Knowing
Rixo — The London label that does vintage-inspired print dressing better than almost anyone. If you love See by Chloé's floral, free-spirited dresses, Rixo is the British answer — and the sizing tends to be more UK-friendly too.
Ghost London — A cult British brand that's been quietly doing romantic, draped, effortless dressing for decades. Their signature satin viscose pieces have that same considered femininity at accessible price points. Genuinely brilliant for the occasion-dress moment.
