What Is Sizing Like at Slazenger?

Slazenger runs relaxed and generous. Across its classic polos, tees and tracksuits you can take your usual size and expect a comfortable, roomy fit rather than anything tailored or clingy. If you like a neater silhouette, size down. The one exception is the performance and tennis kit, which is cut noticeably trimmer.

I've dressed enough men in British heritage sportswear to know the trap: you assume a value polo will come up small and shrink in the wash, so you buy a size up. With Slazenger that's usually a mistake. The poly-cotton blends hold their shape, and the "classic cut" is already forgiving through the chest and body. Buy up and you'll swim in it.

How Slazenger Sizing Actually Works

Slazenger is a Frasers Group brand, sold largely through Sports Direct, and it uses straightforward alpha sizing across a very broad range — XS right through to 6XL and beyond. That's genuinely useful if you're a bigger build, because the size run doesn't run out on you the way it does at a lot of high street shops.

  • Classic polos and tees: true to size, cut relaxed through the chest and a touch long in the body. Between sizes? Size down for a sharper look.

  • Performance / tennis and golf lines: an "active fit" that's slimmer and closer to the body. Take your normal size here — don't drop down.

  • Tracksuits and joggers: generous and comfort-led. Fine for lounging as-is; go one down if you want a tapered, modern leg.

  • Fabric behaviour: the 65% polyester / 35% cotton blends barely shrink and keep their structure wash after wash, so buy for how it fits today.

My quick anecdote on this one

A client of mine, a broad-shouldered rugby type, kept buying Slazenger polos in XXL "to be safe" and looked like he was wearing a tent. We dropped him to XL, tucked the front hem, and suddenly the same brand looked considered. Same money, completely different result. Sizing is styling.

Brands to Shop by Budget

Slazenger is your affordable, do-everything option. If you want to build around it — or trade up — here's where I'd point you.

High Street

  • Uniqlo — the benchmark for a clean, well-fitting polo at a fair price; sizing is consistent and modern.

  • Marks & Spencer — reliable everyday casualwear with proper size grading, strong on regular-to-generous fits.

  • Next — huge range and dependable sizing; a good like-for-like step up from value sportswear.

  • Farah — retro-leaning polos and shirts with a slightly slimmer, more considered cut.

Independent & Boutique

  • Sunspel — the polo and tee done properly; beautiful cotton, a trimmer British cut, worth the jump.

  • Percival — playful, characterful knitted polos for men who want personality without shouting.

  • Universal Works — relaxed, workwear-inflected pieces cut to sit well without being tight.

Designer & Luxury

  • Polo Ralph Lauren — the reference polo; choose Custom Slim if you want it fitted, as the Classic runs roomy.

  • Lacoste — the piqué original; runs slim and shorter in the body, so size decisions matter here.

  • Paul Smith — British tailoring sensibility applied to casual staples; sharp, slim, unmistakably designed.

Styling It Well

A Slazenger polo earns its keep at the smart-casual end. Wear it untucked over dark straight-leg jeans with clean white trainers, or half-tuck the front into chinos with loafers for something a step up. Stick to the plain and tipped styles in navy, bottle green or stone — the busy logo prints date fast. On trend right now: a slightly boxier polo worn with pleated trousers. Slazenger's relaxed cut suits that look, so you don't need to overthink it.
