What Is Sizing Like at Stradivarius?

Stradivarius follows European sizing conventions and generally runs small to standard — if you are between sizes, size up is almost always the right call.
That's the short answer, but there's a lot more nuance depending on which category you're shopping. So let me give you the full picture, because once you crack how this brand fits, it really does open up some brilliant pieces at genuinely accessible prices.
The Time I Nearly Gave Up on Stradivarius
I'll be honest with you — my first Stradivarius purchase was a disaster. I ordered a pair of their straight-leg jeans in my usual size, they arrived, and they were snug in all the wrong places. I assumed the brand just wasn't for me and shoved them in a donation bag without a second thought.
Then a colleague walked into a meeting wearing the most beautiful oversized camel blazer I'd seen all season. I asked where it was from. Stradivarius. I went back that same week, swapped my approach — and honestly, I've not looked back. I just needed to understand how their sizing works.
Who Makes Stradivarius — and Why It Matters for Sizing
Stradivarius is part of the Inditex group — the same parent company behind Zara and Massimo Dutti — so their sizing follows a broadly similar logic. Think European-standard measurements that can run narrow through the hip, fitted through the waist, and occasionally short in the body depending on the cut. It is fundamentally a brand designed with a slimmer, more Mediterranean silhouette in mind. That's not a criticism, it's just useful information.
How Sizing Breaks Down by Category
This is where the real detail lives, because Stradivarius is not consistent across every garment type:
Tops and blouses — Generally true to size, but fitted through the bust. If you're larger in the bust or have broader shoulders, go up one. Their wrap-style and floaty tops tend to be more forgiving.
Jeans and trousers — Size up here, full stop. Their denim runs slim through the hip and thigh, and the waistbands tend to be cut quite tightly. I'd say this is the category that catches the most people out.
Dresses and midi skirts — More generous, on the whole. I've found their floaty midi dresses particularly flattering and usually true to size. Bodycon styles follow the same slim-cut rules as their trousers.
Knitwear and oversized pieces — Size down or stay true. Their oversized fits are genuinely roomy, and an XS can swamp a size 10 frame entirely. These pieces are a brilliant buy when you get the sizing right.
Coats and blazers — Broadly true to size, but the shoulder width tends to run narrower than most UK high street brands. Worth checking the shoulder measurement before buying if you're between sizes.
A Word on Height and Proportions
Stradivarius is a Spanish brand targeting a younger customer, and the proportions reflect that. The torso cuts can be slightly short, and trouser hems often sit shorter than equivalent UK sizing. If you're 5'7" or above, their regular-length trousers may need a small hem adjustment. It's a minor thing, but worth knowing if you've been putting an unexplained hem length down to the wrong cut.
Is the Quality Worth It?

This is fast fashion — I won't pretend otherwise. But within that world, Stradivarius genuinely punches above its weight. Their knitwear in particular has surprised me with its longevity; I have pieces that have washed and worn beautifully for two or three seasons with proper care. Their outerwear is also solid for the price point. The trend turnaround is fast, yes, but they do invest in the quality of their key seasonal pieces in a way that some competitors at the same price point simply don't.
The Best High Street Alternatives If Stradivarius Doesn't Quite Fit
If the sizing isn't working for your shape, or you simply want to explore the same aesthetic with a more UK-friendly cut, here are my picks:
Mango — The closest sibling in terms of aesthetic sensibility. Mediterranean-influenced, trend-led, and their sizing tends to be slightly more generous through the hip. Brilliant for occasion dressing and elevated basics.
ASOS — An enormous range with extended sizing and detailed fit filters. Their own-brand pieces often hit the same trend brief as Stradivarius at a similar price point, and the returns policy is brilliant.
River Island — Particularly strong for denim alternatives. Their jeans cuts are notably more UK-friendly through the hip and thigh, which makes them a good swap when Stradivarius trouser sizing lets you down.
H&M — Consistent sizing, dependable basics, and surprisingly trend-aware at the lower price points. Their Divided line targets the same aesthetic.
Urban Outfitters — For the same indie-cool, slightly eclectic feel. Sizing tends to run more generously, which suits those who find Stradivarius too slim-cut.
Topshop — Still available through ASOS and one of the best for reliable UK sizing with a trend-forward edit. Miss it terribly on the high street.
New Look — A genuinely underrated option. UK-proportioned sizing, good value, and more trend-aware than people give it credit for. Their curve range is also excellent.
Zara — The obvious sister brand. Similar European sizing logic but a wider range and often better construction on investment pieces. Worth applying the same size-up rule.
Premium Picks
Whistles — Beautifully considered cuts, restrained styling, and impeccably consistent sizing. If you're ready to invest in pieces that last, Whistles is where to start.
Me&Em — British, quality-obsessed, and genuinely size-inclusive. The kind of brand where Stradivarius is your starting point and Me&Em is where your wardrobe eventually evolves to.
Reiss — Particularly strong on tailoring and occasionwear. Sizing runs true and the quality improvement over fast fashion is immediately obvious.
Luxury & Designer
Sandro — Parisian cool, beautifully made, and surprisingly wearable day-to-day. Size up from your Stradivarius size in their more fitted pieces.
Isabel Marant Étoile — The diffusion line carries that same effortlessly undone French aesthetic that Stradivarius often gestures towards, but with substantially better construction.
Totême — For the quietly elevated version of that clean, European minimalism. Impeccable sizing and the kind of quality that makes fast fashion feel genuinely disposable.
Two Independent Brands Worth Knowing
Kitri — A London-based independent label doing beautifully crafted pieces in thoughtful colourways and prints. Sizing is true to UK measurements, quality is genuinely impressive for the price, and every season has standout pieces. One to bookmark.
Damson Madder — A British independent with a strong sustainability ethos and flattering, woman-centred cuts. The kind of brand that feels like a proper discovery — independent, ethical, and quietly brilliant.
