What Is Sizing Like at Tesco F&F? An Honest Stylist's Guide

Tesco F&F sizing follows standard UK high street sizing and is, for the most part, genuinely true to size — but with one consistent quirk you need to know about: the more relaxed and casual the item, the roomier it tends to run. Stick to your usual size for dresses, denim, and tailoring, and consider sizing down in jersey tops, loungewear, and anything with an elasticated waist if you want a less baggy result. That's the short version. The longer version is actually quite impressive for a supermarket brand.

I'll be honest — F&F (Florence & Fred, if we're being formal) has surprised me more than once. There's a tendency to write off supermarket fashion without giving it a proper look, and that's a mistake. Since launching in 2001, F&F has quietly built a reputation for on-trend, wearable pieces at prices that make most high street brands look extortionate. Available in Tesco Extra and Superstores, and online through Next, it's more accessible than almost anything else on this list. And for certain categories, it genuinely punches well above its weight.

How F&F Sizing Actually Works

F&F uses UK standard sizing — sizes 6 to 24 across most of the women's range — and their sizing conventions sit comfortably alongside brands like George at Asda, Matalan, and M&S. If you know your size in any of those, you'll know your size in F&F.

What they do particularly well is consistency across categories. Dresses and denim tend to run true to size. Their blazers and structured tailoring pieces cut slim through the shoulder without being clingy, which gives them that premium-lite quality that customers keep commenting on. The fits are designed for real bodies — there's ease built in, especially through the hip and thigh, which makes a genuine difference to how garments hang.

The area to watch? Anything that relies on jersey fabric, elasticated waists, or a deliberately relaxed cut. These run noticeably generous — which is partly intentional (comfort dressing is a thing and F&F leans into it) but can feel shapeless if you take your standard size. In these categories, sizing down gives you a much more flattering result without losing the comfort.

Sizing by Category — The Breakdown

  • Dresses: Consistently true to size and one of F&F's best categories. Their shirt dresses in particular — usually featuring elasticated waists and a button-through front — are a genuine wardrobe staple. Take your usual size.

  • Denim: True to size and well-reviewed. Stretch levels vary between styles — skinny and slim fits have more give than straight-leg cuts, so factor that in. Sizing is consistent with M&S and Next denim.

  • Blazers and tailoring: An unexpected strength. F&F blazers mimic premium tailoring at a fraction of the price. Cut slim through the shoulder, structured enough to hold their shape. True to size — possibly the category where you'll be most pleasantly surprised.

  • Knitwear and sweatshirts: Run slightly large. Intentionally relaxed cuts that work well for layering but can overwhelm a smaller frame. If in doubt, size down.

  • Jersey tops and loungewear: The roomiest category. Great if you want that easy, comfortable feel — but size down if you prefer anything more fitted.

  • Outerwear: Cut with deliberate ease for layering, so expect a more relaxed fit. This is by design rather than inconsistency — it means you can comfortably wear a thick knit underneath.

The Petite and Tall Ranges — Worth Knowing About

One thing F&F does better than many brands at this price point is offer a proper petite range, specifically developed for women 5'3" and under. It's not just the same garment cut shorter — the proportions are genuinely adjusted throughout: narrower shoulders, reduced waist-to-hem length, shorter sleeves. If you're petite and you've been buying standard sizes and rolling up every pair of trousers you own, the F&F petite range is worth a proper look.

They also offer a tall range (sizes 8–20), which addresses the perennial problem of sleeve and trouser lengths that fall three inches short on a longer frame. The fact that a supermarket brand offers this at all says something.

My Honest Take — What's Worth Buying

Post Image

I style women across all budgets, and the thing I always say about F&F is that it's brilliant for filling in the gaps. It's not a brand I'd suggest building an entire wardrobe around, but as a source of honest, wearable pieces that won't bankrupt you? Absolutely. The categories I genuinely rate:

  • Shirt dresses — versatile, flattering, true to size, and excellent value

  • Blazers — the quality-to-price ratio here is quietly remarkable

  • Denim — reliable sizing, decent stretch, and at £20–25 a pair, a very sensible buy

  • Occasionwear — wide-leg trousers, sequinned midis, and satin pieces that look considerably more expensive than they are

Where I'd be a little more cautious: heavily logo'd or trend-led pieces that may not have the longevity of the basics. And do check the fabric composition on knitwear — acrylic-heavy blends won't wear as well as merino or wool mixes, which you'll find at higher price points.

The Best Alternatives to Tesco F&F for Women

If F&F is already in your regular rotation but you want to explore similar price points and aesthetics, or step up slightly in quality, these are the brands I'd point you to:

  • M&S – The perennial comparison point for F&F and genuinely worth the step up in price. M&S sizing is consistent, their Per Una and Autograph ranges offer brilliant quality, and their denim is excellent. A reliable staple for every wardrobe.

  • Next – Interestingly, Next now sells F&F online through their platform, so you'll often find both side by side. Next's own-brand range offers a very similar aesthetic with slightly more elevated fabric quality in key pieces.

  • New Look – Sits at a similar price point to F&F with great trend-led pieces and solid denim. New Look's sizing can run slightly small in structured pieces, so worth checking the size guide.

  • River Island – A step up in trend credentials without a massive leap in price. Great for occasionwear and party pieces where F&F might not quite have the depth of range.

  • Phase Eight – If F&F's occasionwear appeals but you want something more investment-worthy for a wedding or smart event, Phase Eight is the natural step up. Exceptional dresses, consistent sizing.

  • White Stuff – For the buyer who loves F&F's relaxed, easy aesthetic but wants slightly more considered design and better fabric quality. Brilliant knitwear in particular.

  • Great Plains – One of those mid-market brands that does relaxed, wearable basics with a bit more personality than the supermarket brands. Very wearable sizing — generally true to size across categories.

  • Boden – For the classic, quality-first British wardrobe. A significant step up in price from F&F but with a longevity of wear that makes the investment worthwhile. Sizing is reliable and well-documented.

Two Independent Brands Worth Discovering

I always include a couple of brands that sit a bit off the beaten track — because there's a whole world of brilliant fashion beyond the obvious choices.

  • Nobody's Child – A London-based brand doing sustainable, feminine fashion at a very accessible price point. Their dresses and co-ord sets are exceptional value and sizing is true to UK standards. If F&F is your usual go-to, Nobody's Child is a genuinely brilliant next step.

  • Sosandar – A British brand built specifically for women who are done with clothing that doesn't flatter real bodies. Brilliant for smart-casual and occasion pieces, their sizing is generous and consistent. Feels considerably more premium than the price tag suggests.
