What Is Sizing Like at TFNC?

TFNC London runs true to UK size, but on the slimmer side through the bust and waist — especially on their sequin and structured occasion styles, which have little to no stretch. Their floaty chiffon bridesmaid maxis and jersey wrap dresses are more forgiving, but if you're fuller in the bust, in between sizes, or planning to wear shapewear, you'll almost always be happier going one size up.

I learned this the slightly stressful way. A client of mine ordered her usual UK 10 in a TFNC sequin midi for her partner's work Christmas party. It arrived looking like a thing of beauty on the hanger — and absolutely refused to do up over the bust. We had three days. Cue a frantic next-day delivery in a 12, which fitted perfectly, and a mental note I've been giving every client since: TFNC sequins do not stretch. Ever.

About TFNC London

TFNC is a British occasionwear brand founded in the late 1990s, and over the last decade or so it's quietly become one of the UK's go-to names for affordable bridesmaid dresses, party pieces and event-ready maxis. You'll find them on ASOS, John Lewis, Next and their own site, with most dresses sitting between £45 and £110 — which, for the design detail you get, is genuinely good value. Their bridesmaid range in particular is enormous and brilliantly co-ordinated by colour, which is why so many brides keep coming back to them when dressing a party of six.

How TFNC Sizing Actually Runs — Style by Style

Sequin & Embellished Party Dresses

This is where you absolutely need to pay attention. TFNC's sequin and beaded dresses are built on a mesh base with no give whatsoever, so what you measure is what you get. If your bust or hip measurement is sitting on the boundary of two sizes, size up — you cannot fudge it with a good bra or holding your breath, I promise. The dress will look more flattering and sit better in the photos a half-size bigger than a half-size too small.

Bridesmaid Dresses (Chiffon Maxis)

Their bestselling chiffon maxi bridesmaid styles are a touch slimmer through the waist than you'd expect from a floaty fabric. The skirts are generous and forgiving, but the bodice often has a fitted lining underneath. For most people, true to size works; if you have a longer torso or carry weight around the midsection, a size up gives a far kinder fit. Also worth flagging: these are cut for someone around 5'7"–5'8", so petites should expect a hem alteration and tall girls (5'9"+) should double-check the length on the product page before ordering.

Wrap & Jersey Styles

The most forgiving of all the TFNC ranges. Wrap dresses in stretch jersey skim rather than cling and will accommodate around a size's worth of difference between bust and hip. If you're an apple shape or pear, this is where TFNC really comes into its own — true to size is almost always right.

Mini & Bodycon Styles

Cut close. Designed close. Sized close. If you prefer your party dresses with a bit more breathing room, sizing up is sensible — but if you genuinely like the second-skin feel, stick to your usual UK size and you'll be fine.

What Size Should You Actually Order?

My honest stylist advice for shopping TFNC:

  • Take your bust, waist and hip measurements before you go anywhere near the basket.

  • If your bust is more than one size larger than your waist, order up to the bust.

  • If you're buying sequins or any structured fabric, default to a size up if you're in between.

  • For bridesmaid orders for a group, get every bridesmaid measured properly — don't go on dress size alone. The consistency across TFNC's bridesmaid range is genuinely excellent, but only if everyone's actual measurements are used.

  • Allow time for a return and re-order. Christmas-party panic is a stylist's least favourite emergency.

Brand Alternatives to TFNC

If you love TFNC's occasion aesthetic but want to compare, or you've maxed out their styles for one too many weddings, here's where I'd send you next.

High Street

  • ASOS — their own-label occasion range overlaps heavily with TFNC and offers more inclusive sizing, including Curve, Tall and Petite versions of the same styles.

  • River Island — strong on trend-led party dresses; their satin slip styles and embellished pieces rival TFNC on price and beat them on sizing range.

  • Oasis — beautifully cut occasion dresses with that grown-up wedding-guest energy; sizing is consistently true to UK size.

  • Warehouse — excellent for tailored midi and maxi dresses with statement details; the sequin pieces in particular are worth a look.

  • Coast — the original British occasionwear specialist; if TFNC is your party self, Coast is your wedding-guest self. Bridesmaid range is exceptional.

  • Monsoon — softer, more romantic occasion dressing; their bridesmaid collection in particular is a real rival to TFNC's.

  • Mint Velvet — relaxed-glam occasionwear, beautifully fabricated, slightly more grown-up than TFNC.

  • New Look — brilliant for budget-friendly bridesmaid alternatives and trend-led party dresses; sizing is generous compared to TFNC.

Independent Picks

  • Nadine Merabi — a London-based independent that's become the go-to for hen-do, birthday and bridal sequin pieces. Statement, structured, and a clear step up from TFNC if you want a similar aesthetic with better fabric quality.

  • Kitri Studio — British indie, known for occasion dresses with print and personality, and one of the most genuinely inclusive size ranges in the indie space (up to a 26 on many styles).

Premium

  • Ghost London — satin slip dresses that work for absolutely every occasion; the natural premium upgrade from a TFNC chiffon bridesmaid.

  • Réalisation Par — Australian-born, beloved in the UK; their silk-effect slip dresses are flattering, photogenic and brilliantly wearable post-wedding.

Luxury

  • Jenny Packham — the British luxury bridesmaid and occasion gold standard; embellishment and tailoring that justifies the investment.

  • Galvan — pared-back, sculptural eveningwear that takes the slip dress to its most elegant form.
