What Is Sizing Like at Tula Rosa?

Tula Rosa runs small — so my honest advice as a stylist is to size up if you’re between sizes, or if you’re buying anything fitted through the bust and waist. Tula Rosa (officially Tularosa) is the LA-born, Revolve-adored label behind all those garden-party minis and floaty boho maxis filling your feed. They photograph like a dream, but the cut is cut close. I’ve styled enough of these dresses to know exactly where they nip and where they’re forgiving, so here’s everything you need before you hit “add to basket”.

So, does Tula Rosa run small?

Yes — consistently, and especially on the fitted styles. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Fitted bodices, corset tops and bodycon minis are the worst offenders. Size up one from your usual.

  • Floaty, smock and babydoll shapes are far more forgiving — your normal size is usually spot on.

  • The fabrics nearly always have stretch (often a poly-elastane mix), so they give a little once on. But don’t rely on stretch to rescue a too-snug bodice.

  • Sizing runs XXS to XL (US/letter sizing), plus numbered sizes on denim. There’s no UK label on the tag, so don’t be thrown — a US small lands roughly around a UK 8–10.

My own Tula Rosa cautionary tale

Let me save you a returns headache. I once ordered a Tula Rosa mini in my “usual” size for a summer wedding, completely convinced the dreamy product shots meant it would skim. Reader, the zip and I had words in the changing room. I reordered one size up and it was perfect — proper hourglass, and room to actually eat the canapés. Lesson well and truly learned, and now I always size up for their event pieces. My early-career win was the opposite: I nearly talked a client out of a gorgeous tiered Tula Rosa maxi because she’d been burned by their fitted styles before. We kept her true size on the smock shape, and it fit beautifully. The shape matters as much as the number.

How the fit actually feels

  • Bodices and waists: snug and structured — the brand loves a nipped-in waist and a sculpted bust.

  • Length: minis are genuinely mini, and many midis sit shorter than you’d expect. Always check the model’s height against your own.

  • Quality: gorgeous on the eye, but some styles use lighter poly blends that can feel thin. Read the fabric notes and the customer fit tips on the product page.

  • Care: plenty of pieces are hand-wash or gentle-cycle only, so factor that in if you want fuss-free wear.

My styling tips

Post Image

  • For occasionwear, the fitted styles photograph beautifully — just buy the size that lets you breathe, not the one the model is wearing.

  • Balance a short hem with a block heel and a relaxed blazer to take a mini from beach club to dinner.

  • Love the boho prints but want comfort? Go for the smock and tiered shapes in your true size and skip the sizing gamble entirely.

Where else to shop if you love the Tula Rosa look

If Tula Rosa’s romantic, occasion-led aesthetic is your thing, here’s where I’d send clients across every budget — chosen specifically because each one nails a part of what Tula Rosa does so well.

High street

  • Whistles — clean, grown-up occasion dresses with effortless polish; brilliant for a fitted midi that won’t fight you on sizing.

  • Monsoon — the queen of embellished, wedding-guest and garden-party dresses; very Tula Rosa in spirit at a kinder price.

  • Coast — built for events, with structured bodices, statement sleeves and proper occasion fabric.

  • Phase Eight — beautiful embellishment and flattering, forgiving cuts for races, weddings and parties.

  • Hobbs — elevated, ladylike occasion pieces when you want something a touch more tailored.

  • Anthropologie — boho prints, romantic detail and texture; the closest high-street match for Tula Rosa’s free-spirited mood.

  • Oliver Bonas — playful prints and feminine midis at a sensible price, with a younger, fun edge.

  • Ted Baker — bold florals and structured event dresses if you like a statement print.

Premium

  • Ghost — those bias-cut, vintage-inspired slip and floral dresses are pure romance and drape beautifully.

  • Nobody’s Child — sustainable, print-led feminine dresses that capture the garden-party look responsibly.

  • Sézane — French-girl romance with gorgeous detailing; Tula Rosa charm with a Parisian twist.

  • Baukjen — elevated, considered occasion pieces in lovely fabrics with a sustainable backbone.

Luxury / designer

  • By Malene Birger — Scandi-luxe prints and elevated boho with real fabric quality.

  • Joseph — refined, beautifully cut pieces when you want investment occasionwear.

  • Ralph Lauren — for romantic, floaty prairie-luxe dresses with heritage polish.

Two independents worth knowing

  • RIXO — the London label that practically invented the modern boho-romantic print dress. If you adore Tula Rosa, RIXO is your soulmate brand.

  • Kitri — an independent, limited-run London brand doing standout occasion and print dresses with serious personality (and lovely scarcity, so pieces sell fast).
