What Is Sizing Like at Vanessa Sposi?

Vanessa Sposi runs true to size but on a slim, distinctly French cut. Their tidy XS–XL scale maps neatly onto a UK 6 to 14, so if you normally sit at the smaller end of your usual size you'll likely be bang on. Curvier figures, anyone in between sizes, and those of us who like a touch more room through the bust or hip should size up — with one or two exceptions I'll come to in a moment.

I've been styling clients in French labels for the best part of fifteen years, and Vanessa Sposi is one of those Parisian brands that quietly nails the "effortless" thing everyone chases on holiday. It's a sustainable, Paris-born house built around luxury swimwear, with a lovely ready-to-wear and activewear offering alongside. Below is everything I'd tell a client before she hits "add to basket".

A proper French cut — what that actually means

Continental sizing is the first thing to get your head around. Vanessa Sposi works on a simple XS–XL run rather than UK numbers, and the silhouette is cut close, clean and slightly streamlined — the way French labels tend to be. It's flattering, but it's not generous. Here's how I'd read it:

  • True to size for most. If you're a straight-up-and-down frame, your usual size will behave.

  • Size up if you're curvy or between sizes. The cut is narrow through the rib and hip, so if you carry more there, take the next size for comfort.

  • Petite frames, rejoice. If you usually swim in high-street smalls, this brand's XS will finally feel like it was made for you.

My own cautionary tale: years ago I ordered a French linen dress in "my" size on a Friday for a wedding on the Saturday, assuming French meant roomy. Reader, it did not. I spent the day holding my breath. Lesson learned — with French labels, comfort lives one size up.

Swimwear: the clever, cup-led bit

This is where Vanessa Sposi genuinely shines, and where you need to pay attention. Rather than sizing swim tops on a single number, they offer separate fit charts by cup — one band for A/B, another for C/D, and another for DD/E. It's a small thing that makes an enormous difference, because most swimwear pretends bust shape doesn't exist. A few honest pointers:

  • Pick your swim top by underbust and cup, not your dress size. The brand's triangle and balconette styles are graded for it, so use the cup chart.

  • One-pieces are sized by torso length. If you're tall, mind the torso measurement — a too-short one-piece will dig in cruelly.

  • "Le Classique" runs roomy. The brand themselves recommend sizing down on this style for a snug, proper fit.

One of my proudest holiday wins was finally getting a fuller-busted client into a structured triangle top that actually held everything in place — cup-led brands like this are the reason it worked.

Apparel and activewear notes

The ready-to-wear follows the same slim logic. Dresses and blouses are cut for a neat shoulder and a defined waist, so if you're broader up top, go up. The activewear is supportive and fitted — lovely under a kaftan, but order your true size rather than sizing down for "compression". As always with a premium label, check the measurements in centimetres against your own tape rather than trusting the letter on the label.

My honest stylist's verdict

Vanessa Sposi is a buy-with-confidence brand if you size by your measurements and respect the French cut. The cost-per-wear stacks up because the swim holds its shape and the RTW transcends seasons. Just don't order on autopilot — two minutes with a tape saves a sulky return.

Where else to shop for the look

If you love the polished, sun-drenched Vanessa Sposi aesthetic, here's where I'd send clients across every budget.

  • Sweaty Betty — sporty, sculpting swimwear if you want activewear-level support poolside.

  • Hush — the French-girl summer wardrobe in easy, throw-on shapes.

  • Whistles — clean, Parisian-leaning ready-to-wear that nails the understated thing.

  • By Malene Birger — elevated print and colour when you want your holiday dressing to feel considered.

Two off-the-radar independents worth knowing
