What Is Sizing Like at Vesper?

Vesper runs true to size — but with a caveat. Their dresses are cut close to the body in a super-stretch sculpting fabric, so while the numbers on the label match standard UK sizing, the silhouette is unforgiving if you order the wrong size out of optimism. After dressing clients in Vesper for years (and learning the hard way myself), here is everything you actually need to know before you click "add to basket".

The Vesper Fit Lesson That Cost Me a Christmas Party

A few years back I styled a client for a black-tie work do in a Vesper midaxi with the structured sleeves — the one everyone on Instagram was wearing. She was a confident UK 12, but in January energy I ordered the 10 "because the fabric will stretch". The fabric did stretch. It just stretched in a way that made the dress look like it was hanging on rather than fitting, with the sleeves slightly off the shoulder line and the bodice pulling. Quick taxi to the West End, swapped for the 12, problem solved. Lesson learned: Vesper's stretch lux fabric is sculpting, not forgiving. There is a difference.

What Vesper Actually Is

Vesper (also known as Vesper 247) is a UK occasionwear brand quietly building a cult following on TikTok, Instagram and the wedding-guest circuit. They specialise in figure-sculpting dresses, jumpsuits and co-ords in their signature stretch lux fabric — think wedding guests, christenings, race days, dinner dates, awards nights. They stock UK sizes 4–16 with a dedicated petite range.

How Vesper Sizing Actually Works

  • Standard UK sizing. A Vesper 10 is a UK 10 — they have not gone down the vanity-sizing route.

  • Sculpting stretch, not forgiving stretch. The fabric holds you in rather than skimming over you, so you need the right size for it to lie properly.

  • Consistent across the range. Once you know your Vesper size, it tends to apply across most of their dresses — far more reliable than a lot of similarly-priced occasion brands.

  • Use the petite line if you're 5'4" or under. The midaxi length is designed for 5'7"–5'9", and on shorter frames it can swallow the look.

Garment-by-Garment Sizing Notes

  • Bodycon midis & pencil dresses — Order your true UK size. Do not size up "for comfort" — the fabric needs tension to lie properly.

  • Midaxi dresses with structured sleeves — Their signature. The bust can run slightly small if you're a D-cup or above, so consider sizing up if your bust is fuller than your waist/hip ratio suggests.

  • Cut-out dresses — The cut-outs are placed quite precisely. If you're long in the torso, the side cut-outs may sit higher than expected.

  • Jumpsuits — Run true, but the leg length is geared to 5'7"–5'9". The petite line solves this.

  • Co-ords & sets — Buy each piece in its true size; do not assume you're the same size top and bottom. The separates are sold individually for a reason.

  • Maxi dresses with dramatic skirts — True to size on the bodice; the skirts usually have stretch panels so the fit is generous below the waist.

Tips Before You Click "Add to Basket"

  • Measure bust, waist and hips properly — even if you "know" your size, brands shift.

  • Read the model's height and size on each product page — Vesper are good at including this.

  • Hand wash or use a delicate cycle — heat ruins the stretch lux fabric.

  • Resist sizing down for a "snatched" look — the fabric is engineered to do that work for you.

High Street Alternatives in Similar Territory

Post Image

If you love the Vesper aesthetic but want to shop around, these high street brands deliver in adjacent territory:

  • Mango — Their party and Atelier edits have moved firmly into grown-up occasion territory. Cuts are sleeker than they used to be and sizing runs true to slightly small.

  • Monsoon — The undisputed UK queen of wedding guest dressing. Less bodycon than Vesper, but if you want elegant rather than sculpted, this is your shop.

  • Oasis — Brilliant for sequin and embellished occasion dresses at a friendlier price point. Sizing is generous compared to Vesper.

  • Warehouse — Underrated for grown-up midi dresses with the same occasion sensibility. True-to-size and well cut.

  • Mint Velvet — Their slinky midi and bias-cut dresses are a softer take on the going-out dress. Cuts run slim, so consider sizing up.

  • All Saints — Edgier territory but their bodycon midis and slip dresses have that going-out factor with a cool-girl edge.

  • Claudie Pierlot — French and feminine. Their occasion dresses photograph beautifully and the cuts flatter without being aggressive.

Two Independent Brands Worth Bookmarking

  • House of CB — London-based and Vesper's closest indie cousin. Their corseted bodycons and slinky midi dresses use similar-weight sculpting stretch fabrics. Sizing runs slightly smaller than Vesper, so go up half a size if you're between.

  • Pretty Lavish — A UK indie quietly producing some of the prettiest occasion wear out there. Their bias slip dresses and structured midis sit in the Vesper price range with a more romantic aesthetic.

Premium & Luxury Step-Ups

If you're ready to invest beyond the Vesper price point, Self-Portrait is the premium gold standard for structured occasion dressing — proper construction, true-to-size, and the dresses last seasons. For luxury, Roland Mouret is the architecture-of-the-body dress king. If you want a Vesper silhouette executed at couture level, this is it.

My Final Verdict on Vesper Sizing

Vesper is one of the more honest occasion brands when it comes to sizing — what you order is largely what you get. The risk is not the brand; it is us, ordering optimistically because the stretch fabric promises forgiveness. Take your real measurements, read the product page properly, and trust the size you actually are. The fabric will do the rest.
