What is sizing like at Wolf & Whistle?

Wolf & Whistle runs true to standard UK sizing across most pieces, with a range that spans UK 6 to UK 28 thanks to their Curve line — but the actual fit varies more than you’d expect between their lingerie, swimwear, jumpsuits and occasion dresses, which is why so many of us end up mid-order, panic-Googling “does Wolf & Whistle run small?” After years of dressing clients (and an embarrassing number of personal orders), here’s the honest, no-nonsense breakdown.
The Wolf & Whistle fit philosophy
The London-based label was founded in 2012 and originally lived under the Playful Promises umbrella, which is why their lingerie DNA is so strong. They build patterns around real bust-to-waist ratios rather than a flat “S/M/L” template, which is genuinely refreshing if you’ve ever felt like an alien in a fitting room. A few things worth knowing before you click checkout:
The standard: Pure UK sizing — no quietly bumped US vanity sizing, no sliding EU scale.
Cup-sized bras and swim: Their bras run up to a G cup with sister-sizing options, and many swim styles are sold by underband and cup rather than dress size.
Curve range: Sizes 18 to 28 are cut on a different pattern block, not just a graded-up version, so the fit feels properly considered.
Fabric mix: Mesh, satin, lace, stretch jersey — they all behave very differently on the body, and that matters more than the label.
Where the sizing can trip you up
If you take one thing from this post, take this: the category matters more than the number on the tag. Briefs and thongs run a touch snug (every review I’ve read agrees, and I’ve been ordering up half a size on knickers for years). Bralettes and soft-cup pieces are gloriously forgiving. The wide-leg jumpsuits and slip dresses, however, are where the bust-to-waist guessing game begins — if you’re fuller bust and smaller waist, size for the bust and tailor the waist if needed. Activewear is cut close to the body, so size up if you’re between sizes or like a little breathing room.
A confession from my own fitting room
A couple of summers ago I ordered a Wolf & Whistle ruched mesh midi for a friend’s vow renewal in Mallorca, absolutely certain my usual UK 10 was a safe bet. Reader, it was not. The bust was perfect, the waist gaped like it was disappointed in me, and the hem grazed places it absolutely shouldn’t on a 5’7” frame. Two lessons from that hot, slightly mortifying afternoon: always check the model’s height (most W&W models are 5’8.5”), and always read the fabric. “Non-stretch satin”? Go up. “Stretch mesh”? Your usual size will behave. The dress now lives at a friend’s house — she’s 5’4” and it’s her favourite thing she owns.
High street brands I’d put in your basket alongside Wolf & Whistle
Once you know your Wolf & Whistle size, these high street names fit in similar territory or plug the gaps beautifully when stock runs out:
M&S — Their lingerie engineering is genuinely world-class. The best high street match for W&W’s everyday bras, with consistently honest cup sizing.
Calvin Klein — The gold standard for minimalist bralettes, briefs and slip dresses, with comparable stretch behaviour to W&W’s soft-cup styles.
Hush — Lives in the same dreamy slip-dress and loungewear lane as W&W; cuts are forgiving and feminine.
Monsoon — Occasion dresses and lace-detail jumpsuits with the same dressed-up evening energy, and reliably UK-true sizing.
Oasis — Floaty prints and bodycon dresses that pick up where W&W leaves off if your size is sold out.
Phase Eight — Their occasion dresses suit a fuller bust particularly well, much like W&W’s structured pieces.
Reiss — More tailored than playful, but their slip dresses, bodysuits and lingerie sit in the same elevated-everyday space.
Boden — A real standout for cup-sized swimwear, which makes them an excellent stand-in for W&W’s fuller-bust swim edit.
Premium picks worth the splurge

Me&Em — UK-designed, beautifully constructed, with a fit guide you can actually trust. Perfect for grown-up slip dresses and tailored jumpsuits.
LK Bennett — Where W&W leans playful, LK Bennett leans polished — ideal for occasion dressing that needs to feel grown-up.
Luxury & designer alternatives
Eres — French lingerie and swim at its most architectural. The fit through the bust is something else entirely.
Heidi Klein — The luxe answer to cup-sized swim, with British design and beautiful engineering for fuller busts.
Two independent brands I genuinely love
Lounge Underwear — A British indie that’s quietly redefined the bralette and brief space. Their fit-led approach to lounge bras pairs beautifully with W&W’s everyday styles, and their sizing is properly consistent.
Hunza G — A small UK-based label famous for their one-size-fits-most crinkle swim. Iconic, sustainable, and a brilliant counterpoint to W&W when you want a single piece that just works, regardless of where your body is that month.
Quick fit tips before you click buy
Measure your underbust and bust before ordering any cup-sized swim or lingerie — don’t guess based on your high street bra size.
For jumpsuits, prioritise the bust measurement and accept that the waist may need a small alteration.
If a piece is non-stretch (especially satin slips and structured corsets), size up by one and tailor in.
Check the model’s height on the product page — it tells you exactly how a midi or maxi will land on you.
