What Is the Sizing Like at Stella Morgan?

Stella Morgan runs largely true to UK sizing across a generous size 8 to 26 range – but the catch is the labelling. Some pieces arrive in standard UK numbers (8, 10, 12), while others come as S/M/L, where each letter covers two sizes: S is roughly a UK 8–10, M a 12–14, and L a 16–18. Once you know which system you’re looking at, it’s one of the easier labels to shop with confidence.

I’ve styled plenty of clients into Stella Morgan over the years. It’s a catwalk-inspired, occasion-led British brand that’s been going for more than three decades, sitting somewhere between affordable and properly considered. Here’s exactly how it fits.

How Stella Morgan sizing actually works

A few things to hold in your head before you buy:

Two systems, one brand. You’ll see both UK numeric (8–26) and lettered sizing. As a rule, S = UK 8–10, M = UK 12–14, L = UK 16–18. If a listing only gives you a letter, assume it spans two sizes.
It’s genuinely inclusive. The range runs from an 8 up to a 26 – broader than most high street occasion brands – so there’s room either side of your usual size.
The cut is forgiving. Stella Morgan leans into floaty maxis, fit-and-flare dresses and stretch jersey. These shapes skim rather than cling, which is half the reason they’re so wearable.

Where it runs true, and where it doesn’t

Dresses: true to size, occasionally a little generous on the bust in the more structured occasion styles. If you’re between sizes in a lettered piece, size down – the letter already covers the larger number.
Jersey and scuba-crepe: built-in give, so take your normal size and trust it.
Tailored or fitted occasion pieces: can come up a touch snug across the upper back and arm. If you carry width there, go up one.
The resale caveat: a lot of Stella Morgan circulates second-hand on Vinted, where sellers list by letter. Always check the actual garment measurements in the listing, not just the S/M/L.

A quick confession on that last point. I once ordered a lettered “Medium” assuming it was a straight UK 12, and it turned up noticeably roomier because M covers 12–14. I ended up taking it in at the waist – entirely my own fault for not reading the label properly. Lesson learned, and now I always size down in the lettered pieces.

My styling advice

Stella Morgan is at its best for occasion: weddings, the races, cruises, christenings, the parties where you want print and movement without spending a fortune. One of my favourite styling wins was a client headed to a August wedding who was convinced she had nothing to wear and no budget left. We put her in a Stella Morgan printed maxi that skimmed beautifully, photographed like something three times the price, and meant she could spend on the shoes instead. She still wears it.

So buy for the event, not the number on the label. A bias-cut maxi that floats is worth far more than a fitted midi you’re holding your breath in all day. With this brand, comfort and movement are the whole point – lean into it.

Ghost – the queen of the floaty bias-cut dress. If Stella Morgan’s maxis are your thing, this is the natural step up.
